Parenting Rant

Since when did parents... stop BEING parents?

I hear stories pretty frequently about how the child in a parent's life is allowed to make the choices for the whole household, and I'm just aghast. Here's just some examples, based on things I've seen/heard, etc.:

If I tried to tell my mom what we were or were not having for dinner, or threw a fit about what she was fixing, you know what happened? I got to wait till breakfast to eat, and if I was lucky, mom didn't serve me the meal from the night before, cold. Also, if my mom put it on my plate, I was required to at least try it, and while my mom did placate a lot of my food tastes as a child (I didn't like sandwiches on regular bread, but I was more than happy if it was on a pita), she was still the parent.

If I tried to backtalk my mom when she said for me to clean my room, she'd dump all the drawers out, take everything out of my closet, etc. I would then have an hour to clean my room, and anything left on the floor would go to Goodwill. Only took once.

What am I trying to say here? Who knows, really. Guess I'm just learning what kind of parent I will turn out to be. Can't wait for the day my kid says "MOOOOOOOOOOOMMM, you're just old fashioned."

And on a whole different tangent...

Something I've never actually written about in my blog, probably because I hadn't thought about it, but after Friday, I just had to share this.

SKS? Fully customized with a pistol grip, adjustable stock, and other accoutrements? HELL of a lot of fun to shoot!

Went to the firing range with my buddy Aaron and his girlfriend last Friday, and had an absolutely FANTASTIC time. Aaron also let me put some rounds through his Glock 27, and I really really really want one now. A Glock 27 is a .40 cal subcompact semi-automatic handgun. It doesn't kick too much, and it fits my hand well. I also started researching what it's going to take to get me my Concealed Handgun License in Houston.

In other news, spring break is next week. Got to start getting my "to do list" together.

March Menu

So here it is, March's menu. As you can see, there's a couple additions, as Spring Break is later this month, so we're planning for lunches that week. Bought a bunch of Lean Cuisines and soups and the like for the FFY days. Already did March's grocery shopping, spent $273.00 total, saved $164.00. Roomie will reimburse $93.00.

Spring Break for us is going to be spent organizing this apartment, going through things, and getting rid of a lot of stuff. I'm actually looking forward to decluttering, but I'm also looking forward to sleeping in! School's running me ragged. Also, I've put in the menu what cookbooks some of the recipes are from, so that way I remember where I found it!

DISCLAIMER - This is just a main course listing. I do not list side dishes, or every single item that goes into making my entire meal. I also don't normally make a menu for lunches or breakfast because nobody is home during those times, but it is spring break later this month, and I had to plan ahead for that.
